ash wednesday in new orleans

Can’t believe I forgot about Mardi Gras yesterday.  And the city that made it famous.

I’ve never been to New Orleans, but I got a fine dose of the city, circa 1907, in COMING THROUGH SLAUGHTER, Michael Ondaatje’s gorgeous novel about Buddy Bolden.  Man must have been one hell of a trumpet player.  Ondaatje is one hell of a writer.

You can read more about the book here.

For a closer look at how New Orleans survived Hurricane Katrina, I’m eager to watch the documentary TROUBLE THE WATER.  Anybody seen it yet?
